Study Skills

Study skills are peppered throughout all of my sessions.  However, I can offer specific dedicated sessions, with a focus on developing core skills for exam preparation.

Memory, Organisation & Sequencing

SpLD learners often require a huge amount of over-learning to support their memory. Therefore, I find imaginative ways to go over topics several times in different ways.

Revision & assisting memory

  • Memory games - I can provide memory training to help overcome working memory deficit

  • Techniques to remember key subject specific vocabulary

  • Visual reminders with colour coding, symbols and visual note taking.

  • How to use highlighters as an effective tool to highlight key information when scanning & skimming through a text a second time, locating key points and specific information, and focusing on key command words in the question.

  • Short & visual checklists to refer to for independence.

Assistive Technology

I can advise learners on how to utilise cutting-edge assistive technologies to enhance accessibility.

This encompasses configuring accessibility settings on OneNote, such as

  • reduced glare
  • tinted backgrounds
  • double spacing
  • spell check
  • speech recognition
  • text-to-speech
  • screen readers
  • operating voice-activated software for dictation purposes.

Additionally, I provide guidance on utilising ChatGPT for:

  • simplifying or summarising information in a specified style
  • proofreading content
  • organising information into tables.

I can also advice on how to utilise an exam c-pen.
